Sept. 12-13, 8th Annual Oklahoma BioBlitz! is being held this year at the Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge on Friday, Sept. 12th at 3:00 P.M. through Saturday, Sept. 13th, 2008 at 3:00 P.M. The Oklahoma BioBlitz! is a rapid inventory of biological diversity hosted by the Oklahoma Biological Survey and conducted by volunteers from around the state and the region. As many plants and animals in a designated area of public land that can be identified in 24 consecutive hours are tallied. www.biosurvey.ou.edu/bioblitz.html

Dave is a volunteer at the newly opened Audubon Center in Joplin, and will talk about the center’s new state of the art green building and its unique ecosystem, some of the last remaining chert glades, a globally unique habitat found only in this area. Dr. Butler will sharpen our Oklahoma bird ID skills with photos and field hints first.  Mr. Shackford will bring maps and teach us protocols for counting, recording and reporting birds for our 1st Christmas Bird Count in many years! We will concentrate our CBC participation on the Oklahoma River area, while also picking up some hotspots in parks and neighborhoods.
